Why You Should Work for Yourself!

June 6, 2011 by bpsitemgr

Are you ready for a change?

Are you tired of sacrificing your youth, your family and your whole life on the altar of the faceless, stomach grinding companies you work for? Companies that couldn’t care less about you or your family. And as soon as they can find some way to do the work for less money, they toss you out in a ditch somewhere like corporate road kill.

Companies hypnotize us with just enough money so we don’t quit. And we obediently pop up every morning like a piece of toast, and run out of the house while it’s still dark, hurry our kids off somewhere into the arms of strangers. Our children’s first steps are seen by other people and first words are heard by other people and then we pick them up in the afternoon and flop ‘em in the back seat like a bag of groceries. Then there is the shopping and errands and cooking and cleaning up and homework and arguing because of the nerve-racking pressure at work where we sit up, beg, do tricks, roll over like a wet dog panting for a bone. And we beg for this like it was important.

Are you tired of being a company lap dog, settling for table scraps of a paycheck?

Your boss thinks you ought to stay late and work on weekends – well, who cares what he thinks. What about what you think? I know a lot of people who would like to escape this way of life, but most of us never have the guts to do it.

We spend our life with veins popping out of our necks trying to please bosses we don’t like and who don’t us and trying to get our bills paid and get out of a ditch and we never really ever get to go on a special vacation. And fun for their kids is staying at the relatives somewhere and running through the sprinklers while they work. Well that’s ok, but kids don’t count that as a vacation. They call that a trip to the relatives.

And in the background you can hear the clock ticking…

It’s ticking for you and for everyone else who is trading all the pleasures of life for a cold bowl of company porridge that’s killing them.

And then after a lifetime of service when the best years of our lives and our family’s were stolen from us, and we were ground up and stuffed down the company garbage chute. Then instead of a gold watch, we just get the boot.

Well this article is a wake up call (albeit tongue in cheek) for whoever wants to escape this strangle hold of domination and get out of the ditch. And it’s the one message your company does not ever want you to hear. This message of hope and freedom.

And for many people who own their own business in the traditional sense it is worse. Because they know a lot about their products but have not made the effort to learn the keys that will make them successful, they endure the strangle hold and life shortening pressure of having to open up, lock up, theft, employee arguments all the time, taxes, equipment breakdowns, government forms, getting sued, out of a job if you get sick, and are unemployed if you don’t make a sale.

They have financial statements they can’t read.

And families they never get to see,

Well this is not the Australian dream.

Mom, Dad, this is a nightmare.

And our precious children wake up crying in the middle of the night not knowing why and then they end up on the garbage dump of drugs and premarital sex and alcohol, because we only get to see them for about 27 seconds a day and we can’t listen to what they are saying because we are never there. And all the love we really have for our family gets squeezed out and ends up in arguments and fights in a pressure cooker of a life. Our kids think that dad lives at the airport and Mom just visits in the evening for a few hours.

And it never lets up. A day of this just runs into the next day. Then one day we wake up and look in the mirror, our kids are all gone, and we say,

“What have I done, what has happened to me?”

Lots of men and women say on their death bed, boy, I wish I spent more time with my family, but no one ever said I wish I spent more time at the office.

But, here we are on a treadmill, we can’t get off, run ragged by people who use us up like grist for the company mill. Are you tired of that?

How old are you? 25, 35, 45, 55, 65, how long are you going to keep telling yourself that you’re just about to round the corner at work?

And I hope you do keep saying it … but for what?

We have to wait for someone to retire or die before you can move up.

Better pay…sure, but what about all of the football games, piano recitals and family picnics and school days you have to turn over to your company?

Just for a key to the executive bathroom as a perk.

There is a fork in the road.

On one side are all the people who love us and they have their arms stretched out hoping we will choose them. On the other side are our companies who want to rent us out with fancy titles and expensive desks they let us sit behind and business cards……..and finally the boot.

I never knew you Mom, that’s what your kids say, Dad I never knew you.

Only you can change your life, only you can choose to do what the successful people do. It’s not easy but you can do it. The time to start is now. Go on, seize this opportunity, get out of the rat race, get options for yourself and your family.
